Question
Twist locks come in three main types: semi-automatic (SATL), fully automatic (FATL), and manual. SATLs are the most common at sea, engaging on landing and unlocking by handle. FATLs lock and unlock automatically with motion. Manual locks need direct operation each time. All meet ISO 3874 standards.
Did you know?
Different twist lock designs exist because containers face different forces in different environments. Equipment used on a ship may be designed to handle movement that rarely occurs in a storage yard.
