A 40ft shipping container is transported the same way as a 20ft — on a flatbed truck with a Hiab crane or by tilt truck. The truck must be longer to handle the 40ft length and meet weight limits. Most road transport caps loaded weight at 24 tonnes. Wide-load permits are needed in some areas.

A loaded 40ft container can be longer than many people expect. On difficult sites, turning space often becomes a bigger challenge than lifting capacity.
