TAKING SELF STORAGE SOLUTIONS TO RESIDENTS DURING REFURBISHMENT WORK

Most TITAN self storage customers visit their local depot to deposit goods, but when a housing association needed help during refurb work, we bent the rules. 

THE CHALLENGE

A housing association in Copenhagen that had seven properties to look after contacted us to see how we could help with a unique problem. They had committed to refurbishing the basement rooms in all of these buildings – a process that would last several years. Did we have a way to enable residents to transfer their goods kept in their basements to some kind of local storage for the duration of the work?

THE SOLUTION

Working with the housing agency and the local authority, we developed a plan to bring more than 15 secure storage containers to a patch of available land adjacent to the properties in question. This pop-up self storage solution would enable residents to easily transport their goods to a nearby storage depot and access their possessions at any time.

It was the first time we’d been asked to provide temporary storage like this; more commonly, people come to one of our secure self storage centres a short drive from their home (we have 28+ in the UK). But the solution we came up with is a system that clearly works. This innovative pop-up storage solution is something we can now offer to TITAN clients around the world when circumstances necessitate it (and logistics make it possible).

THE DELIVERY

Unlike some container companies, TITAN only uses genuine shipping containers as self storage lock-ups. That means they’re as solid as a rock and built to last for decades. They are the perfect, secure self storage solution.

We arrived at the site exactly as planned and started loading the containers in a linear fashion, with doors facing outwards. This helped ensure that the residents could get in and out with ease.

THE RESULTS

While the renovation work is still ongoing, reports from the client indicate that the temporary solution we settled on is a winner; we’re hoping to report back with a final verdict on this engagement soon. There’s a strong possibility that this kind of ad-hoc storage setup will soon be repeated. With space in cities at a premium, who knows where self storage of this kind may ‘pop up’ next?
