Supporting seasonal fresh-food logistics across China

Seasonal demand for fresh seafood, river products and fruit can place significant pressure on cold-chain infrastructure. For JD Group, flexible storage capacity helps farmers prepare temperature-sensitive products for shipment during peak periods.
The challenge
JD.com operates one of China’s largest e-commerce and logistics networks, including dedicated cold-chain infrastructure for fresh, frozen and refrigerated products.
Products such as Chinese mitten crab, seasonal seafood and river produce require careful temperature management during peak seasons. Farmers need access to reliable cold storage close to their production sites, but building permanent facilities for seasonal demand is not always practical.
The challenge was to provide flexible temperature-controlled capacity across multiple breeding and production locations while integrating with JD’s established cold-chain network.
The solution
TITAN provided ArcticStore units to JD Group under a framework rental agreement covering 40 units, deployed in phases across different breeding bases.
Farmers use the units to pre-cool ice packs before products are shipped. The prepared ice packs then support temperature-controlled transportation through JD’s cold-chain network, helping fresh products reach markets across China.
The rental model allows storage capacity to be deployed where and when it is needed, without requiring permanent infrastructure at every location.

This project demonstrates how mobile cold storage can support seafood, river products and seasonal fruit while connecting local production sites with established nationwide logistics networks.
