An offshore container is a specialist container built to handle offshore lifting and cargo transfer at sea. They meet DNV 2.7-1 and EN 12079 standards for impact, lifting, and weather. The corner castings, side walls, and floor are reinforced for the rough loads of oil rig and marine work. They cost 2 to 3 times a standard container.

Offshore containers face forces that standard shipping containers rarely experience. They may be lifted between moving vessels and platforms while suspended above rough seas, which is why offshore standards are stricter.
