Ireland has the highest incidence of cystic fibrosis (CF) in the world. This inherited disorder causes severe respiratory and digestive problems and affects more than 1,400 people in the country.
Those with CF need as many as 19,000 pills each year to help manage the condition and often report that breathing feels like a life-and-death struggle.
Julian Benson, a choreographer, talent agent and former judge on RTÉ One’s Dancing with the Stars, has lived with CF since he was two. His charity, the Julian Benson CF Foundation, helps people with cystic fibrosis when they need it most.
The charity’s most ambitious project to date will come to fruition soon. ‘Tranquility House’, a 160 year old Victorian house that will be converted to four apartments and will offer a second home for families when loved ones are receiving or recovering from treatment at the city’s St Vincent’s University Hospital.
TITAN Impact has been on hand to support the project since November 2023.
AN URGENT STORAGE CHALLENGE
With the cost of Tranquility House standing at well over one million Euros, financial help and other kinds of assistance from multiple sources has been warmly welcomed.
One donor was the well-known furniture brand DFS, which offered a multitude of much-needed household items for the new home that had been showcased at Dublin’s Ideal Home Show.
However, this important donation was at risk of being damaged due to a lack of storage space during the building’s extensive refurbishment works.
When the TITAN Dublin team was alerted to the problem, TITAN Impact stepped in to offer unlimited use of one of our spacious 40ft storage containers for as long as the charity needed.
This secure, watertight unit has been keeping Tranquility House’s new furniture safe and dry since the day it was donated. Its precious cargo is set to be installed into the new home by the end of this year.
Tranquility House is Ireland’s first home away from home for people with CF and will help ensure that parents are never far away when their children are being treated.
WHY WE CHOSE TO SUPPORT THIS PROJECT
When funds are stretched and every penny counts, having to dig deep to pay for storage can seriously impact a charity’s ambitions.
With literally thousands of containers at our disposal, we were happy to step in to help solve this problem – which would have long-lasting benefits to children with CF and their families.
CF is usually diagnosed by the age of two – meaning its impact on children and their families can be immense. A comfortable home residential centre that supports Ireland’s CF community is something we’re delighted to get behind as a cause that resonated with us.
